- It is a screening test conducted to assess the knowledge, aptitude of aspirants. Preliminary exam consists of paper of objective type. The marks obtained by a candidate in the prelims who qualifies to the mains exam will not be be taken in account to determine their final merit.
General Instructions
Candidate has to apply for the CCS-I exam through TNPSC portal in order to appear in the preliminary exam.
In order to crack Prelims,
- Aspirants has to go through the syllabus (Degree-Standard) prescribed by TNPSC.
- Once familiar with the syllabus, aspirants has to go through all the previous year general studies questions conducted by TNPSC, not just Group-1 but also Group-II/IIA, IV, VAO, High Court, Engineering Services and other exam’s General studies question paper.
- After socializing with the exam, aspirants has to go through the source books to find the source/areas of questions.
- The candidate has to apply via online through form available in the TNPSC website http://www.tnpsc.gov.in/. Candidates must read through the instructions given in the TNPSC notification, before applying.

- It is a test of in-depth talent, writing skills, understanding, memory, presentation of information. Mains exam consists of three papers of descriptive type. Marks obtained by a candidate has weightage in their final merit.

To Crack through Mains,

Guidelines:
- Students are directed to upload the scanned copies of the following documents through near by e-sewa centres. [those who are applying from chennai please visit the zonal / head quarters corporation office e-sewa centres.
- Students are advised to upload those documents which they have given in the online application while applying for group i preliminay exam[cerificate number sholu be same.
- Fee Payment: those who didn’t claim for fee exception while applying for prelim exam are requsted to pay rs. 200 via online banking / credit card / debit card.
Only if you pay the fee, link will open in e-sewa centres.

- Pg degree certificate or provisional (if applicable only)
- Character and conduct obtained from the Head of Institution in which he/she last studied/studying or Transfer certificate from last studied institution if it has proof of conduct and character.

- Pstm certificate for any special RESERVATION – (if applicable only)
- Special reservation certificate (disabled person/destitute widow/ ex-service men) – (if applicable only)

- It is the final test in candidate’s assessment. Candidates who qualify the TNPSC Group-1 Main Exam will move to the next and final phase called ‘Personality Test/Interview & Record’ who will be interviewed by a Board. Marks obtained by a candidate has weightage in their final merit.
- Candidate qualified in Main exam will be called for certificate verification. After this process, TNPSC announces list of candidates qualified to appear in the Interview. Candidate has to go through current affairs by involving them in discussions on local, district, state, national and international issues, and questions related to candidate education, native location etc.,
